Why we use it
Lying on your belly gives you the floor to press into, so you can feel the breath in the belly instead of the neck.
Start here
Lie face down. Forehead on stacked hands. Legs long. Soften the buttocks.
How to
- 1Lie face down. Forehead on stacked hands. Legs long. Soften the buttocks.
- 2Breathe in so the belly and lower ribs press the floor away.
- 3Breathe out and let the whole body settle heavier.
- 4Keep the back of the neck long. Unclench the jaw.
Feel for
Belly and lower ribs pressing into the floor as you breathe in. Neck long.
Breathing
Slow breath in through the nose that widens the waist. Long breath out that lets you get heavier, not smaller.
Do this
- — Breathe in so the belly and lower ribs press the floor away.
- — Breathe out and let the body settle heavier, not smaller.
- — Keep the back of the neck long.
Common mistakes
- — Breathing only into the low back and dumping the belly.
- — Clenching the jaw into the hands.
Regression · Progression
Easier: Put a folded towel under the belly so you can feel it press.
Harder: Pause 3 seconds at the top of the breath in, without lifting the head.
